Our Missional Mandate

For the past few months, I have been meeting with 11 other leaders from my church to pray, talk, and more fully discover the missional calling for our church.  It has been invigorating and painstaking.  We have now met together for nearly 20 hours, not including time spent outside our meetings.

Thursday night, we had the joy of giving about 75 people from the church the results to date of our discussions.  It was a single sentence.  What?  All that time for just a single sentence?  Yup.  The best things are often the most crisp and clear.

Now to be fair, we also shared a lot about what we have learned by interviewing civic leaders in our community, the strengths of our church, and the bent of our leadership style.  But the highlight of the evening was the “unveiling.”

So what is it?  What do we believe is our “missional mandate?”

Community Christian Fellowship engages all generations to fully rely on God every day.

Each of those words was carefully chosen and represents something about God working among us, and about His calling to people to reach people in our area who have not met Him yet.

The people who came that night spent more than an hour in small groups discussing the sentence.  Some really good feedback came.

We have more to do in the coming months to now bring more detail to this simple sentence.  But something powerful is beginning.  I’m excited to be alive in Jesus for days such as this.
